In Barcelona, Honor unveiled a remarkable new product: the Robot Phone. I was there in person and initially expected it to be primarily an intriguing photographic innovation. It turns out, however, that Honor’s plan is far more ambitious: the device is also meant to “tilt” its head and communicate with its owner through gestures. And, believe it or not, to actually be a bit of a robot.

The Robot Phone Aims to Be a “New Type of Phone”
If you’re shaking your head a little right now, I understand — I originally thought it was something of a marketing stunt, or perhaps an interesting concept that may or may not ever make it to market.
But in the packed congress hall in Barcelona, Honor representatives made it clear that this is not just a curiosity, but a truly real product that will launch — as CEO James Li announced — “in the second half of 2026.”
Yes, it may still end up being something of a gadget toy, but it genuinely looks very interesting. That said, we should quickly add that there is still very little information available. Even so, the simple fact that Honor is serious about it and that the product is coming to market is worth attention and a summary of the facts.

Honor Robot Phone – What We Know
It is coming to market soon: as stated in Barcelona, the Robot Phone should go on sale in the second half of the year. Nothing more, nothing less. We don’t even know whether it will be available globally or limited to the Chinese market, which is often the case in similar situations.
It is meant to truly be a “robot.” The concept is genuinely interesting: presentations and videos at the Honor event indicated that it is designed to function as a device fulfilling an actual robotic role. The camera, which flips out from a cavity in the upper part of the phone, is intended to act as a distinct “robot head.” In demo videos, it nodded and essentially tried to “communicate.” Yes, it sounds a bit crazy, but the demonstrations looked fairly convincing.

The key use case will be content creators. At first glance, it’s obvious that content creators will be watching this new device closely, as it undeniably offers an intriguing combination of a high-quality camera and video capabilities, further stabilized through the construction of its pop-out module. Similar features are offered, for example, by the popular YouTuber favorite, DJI Osmo Pocket 3.
As for more detailed specifications, we know only one thing: the sensor will have 200 megapixels. The official presentation and press release mention nothing more in detail. We therefore know nothing about the lens design or its additional parameters. In this regard, we will simply have to wait and see.

The role of the gimbal may also prove crucial. Part of the presentation showed a happy couple racing through rough terrain in an off-road vehicle, with the system able to stabilize everything for photography and especially for video recording. In another segment of the presentation, the camera head demonstrated various special effects during rotation and different shooting modes. But again, that’s all we know.
In any case, one thing is certain: it will be fascinating to watch how this develops. Because if the project makes it all the way to completion, it could become a very interesting addition to the world of high-end smartphones.
